Affordable Oil Painting Hacks: How to Use a Glass Cutting Board as a Budget-Friendly Palette
Are you a budding artist looking to explore the world of oil painting without breaking the bank? Look no further! In this blog post, I will share a budget-friendly hack that will help you create beautiful oil paintings without spending a fortune.
One essential tool for oil painting is a glass palette, which allows you to mix and blend your colors with ease. However, glass palettes can be quite expensive. But fear not, I have a hack that will save you money while still giving you a high-quality painting surface. Instead of investing in a traditional glass palette, consider using a glass cutting board as a budget-friendly alternative. Glass cutting boards are affordable, easy to clean, and many provide a smooth surface that is perfect for mixing oil paints. You might already have one you don’t use in your kitchen! Read on to see why I love them.
A glass palette is one of my favorite tools for color mixing. But they can be expensive. Guess what? (No, not chicken butt.) You can use a glass cutting board without ridges as a palette and save a lot of $$$. The one I like is found here: https://amzn.to/4dVpSHx
This hack will save you around $20 - $30 dollars compared to art store prices. Be sure if you use a different variety, check to make sure that it doesn’t have ridges. You want it to be a clear flat glass that is tempered. I place mine over a white towel or paper to get a better idea as to the tone and values. This cutting board is available in different sizes, I would measure your flat surface for painting and get the largest palette you can fit!
